MYLON is an extremely resistant and durable material.
Its remarkable lightness translates into unmatched
wearability, however large the design. In addition,
the material's thermal adaptability means the
frames are fully adjustable to the wearer's features.
Essentially, the key properties of MYLON that are
set to revolutionise the eyewear market are excellent
durability, unlimited possibilities in terms of design
and shapes, fantastic adjustability and extreme
light weight.

MYKITA & MYLON
MYKITA is to unveil its new material MYLON
at the 2010 SILMO trade fair.
Berlin-based MYKITA has been making spectacle frames for the high-end
market segment since 2003. It combines cutting-edge materials with
high-tech component production and traditional hand assembly. Signature
design coupled with revolutionary, patented joint concepts have given
MYKITA a unique and unmistakable identity. Constant innovation and
an integrated business philosophy are the central pillars of the
company. MYLON, the result of extensive research, is a further illustration
of this.
The new, patented material involves a polyamide that boasts unlimited
design options and can be formed into any shape desired. A technique
known as Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) enables the realisation of
three-dimensional structures without the form-related limitations of
conventional injection moulding tools. A generative layering process
gradually builds up the product from polyamide powder.
Unused powder is recycled, thereby making this production process
waste-free.
After the sintering stage the product is subjected to a range of different
refin-ing processes. The seamless structure created by the layer
technique and the patented finishing of the surface give the polyamide
frame unique visual and tactile qualities. MYKITA calls the resulting
material MYLON.
COLLECTION NO 2
Hinge
Technical excellence and constant innovation are essential elements of
the MYKITA brand. This season sees MYKITA presenting a large embedded
acetate joint for Collection No 2's wider temples. A distinguishing
feature here is the flexi-effect that enables the joint to be bent over
while open. This enhances wearability by making it easier to put on and
remove the glasses. The most important aspect, however, is the sophisticated
look created by the new technical feature: visible and perfectly
executed functionality - a trademark feature of the MYKITA brand. The
new, patented hinge design is, like its smaller counterpart, based on
the innovative metal injection moulding technique and a spring.
Colour range
The acetate collection now has a pair of new two-tone colour combinations:
Dark Brown/Taupe
and Black/Smoke. The bicolour setup has already
proved successful in MYKITA's metal-frame collection. The separation
between the translucent lower edge and the dark tone of the upper frame
gives the glasses a classic vintage look. The differently coloured
acetate is milled out of the full material in a series of complicated
steps. Another new highlight on the colour front is the intense, translucent
Ink Blue
.
Prescription
The new prescription frame for ladies goes by the name DAPHNE and was
inspired by the classic cat-eye form from the 1950s. DAPHNE drops the
dramatic pointy corners, however, favouring more contemporary and
rounded edges. The junction between temple and frame is offset in a
way that does not disturb the model's dynamic contours. In addition
to Topaz DAPHNE is available in Black, Dark Brown and Amethyst.
NELSON
is a reinterpretation of a 1980s oversize frame. Given a makeover
by MYKITA so as to break it down to the essentials, NELSON is a must-have
item for nostalgic lovers of that era's style. NELSON comes in the bicolour
combinations Black/Smoke and Dark Brown/Taupe. The model is in
addition available in Black, Cuba, Tobago and Warm Grey.
EARL
is a circular interpretation of a classic 1930s model - a prescription
frame that focuses and frames the eyes. The discreet colour
selection comprising Black, Cuba and Tobago is aimed at traditionalists,
while the vibrant Amethyst option will have particular appeal for
the ladies.
Sunglasses
A minimal curvature of the frame is a recurring feature of MYKITA's
acetate designs - and an aspect that reveals the brand's classic craftsmanship.
This styling feature is, for example, consciously employed in
the ORNELLA model. The large, round frame sits perfectly straight on the
nose and is as such a genuine statement accessory for style-savvy female
urbanites. The male counterpart RICK, with its bold, straight top line
and its large, dark lenses is designed for the self-assured man.
MYKITA & Alexandre Herchcovitch

In Brazilian fashion designer Alexandre Herchcovitch's Spring/Summer 2011
collections architectural shapes create interesting, abstract spaces. Colours
play an important part in giving more intensity to the clothes.
To sit with both Herchcovitch's women's and men's summer collections,
MYKITA and Alexandre came together to design a collection of four unisex
sunglasses.
Alexandre wanted to breathe new life into a couple of classic frame shapes
he always loved, as worn by the iconic architect Le Corbusier himself. These
were translated into MYKITA's flat metal concept, made of thin sheets of
stainless steel and then folded into form. The result is two "full" and roundish
shapes, ARITANA and her sister ATIARA. ARITANA has the straighter top
line of the two, but is gently curved in a way that's vaguely reminiscent of an
owl. ATIARA is striking due to her strongly cranked nose-bridge and pointy
sides, which give here a sympathetic look.
To take the product out of its historic context the bottom rims of the frames
were cut off, with a very graphic result transforming ARITANA into ANAI,
and ATIARA into IARA, infusing the frames with a radical modernity.

The collection's monochromatic use of colours adds another notable twist,
reflecting the colours and graphic treatment of the clothes.
The collaboration collection comes in three monochromatic colour schemes:
gold
combined with amber lenses, turquoise with matching turquoise lenses
and a black/black version.
About Alexandre Herchcovitch
As one of Brazil's most notable fashion designers, Alexandre Herchcovitch's
collections grace the runways of New York Fashion Week and the Official Brazilian
Fashion Calendar. His designs reflect his love of art, prints, textiles, and
Brazilian culture. He now produces four collections per season: Herchcovitch;
Alexandre - prêt-a-porter for both men and women - and Herchcovitch; Jeans
- jeanswear for both men and women.
MYKITA & Rad Hourani
As a symbol of protection from all elements, sunglasses take on
a util-itarian feel in the dynamic collaboration between MYKITA and
RAD HOURANI. Inspired by shape and architecture, the RAD model presents
itself in the simplest form of expression; delivering a timeless, unisex,
graphic and modern design. The highly anticipated union between
both brands express the modern and minimalist philosophy behind RAD
HOURANI
along with the eyewear design expertise of Berlin-based MYKITA.
With state of the art technology combined with classic manufacturing
methods, the craftsmanship behind the RAD model continues to push
innovation with the use of a new development at MYKITA: a material
branded MYLON. With the organic texture of wood and the weightlessness
of aluminium, MYLON's patented surface treatment creates a frame made
without the need for heavy tooling.
Exclusively available in Black, the RAD model is both angular in shape
and versatile in wearability. The robotic look of the RAD is the result
of the completely planar shield lens. The wide temples are equipped
with MYKITA's patented hinge system.
